Why Your Business Premises Is Crucial

So you’re thinking of branching out on your own and becoming an entrepreneur. Right now, you are probably in the throes of juggling your current nine to five with perfecting your plans for your new business venture. It can be tough as a startup to work out where your planning priorities should lie. You need to know where your funding will come from, to get your marketing strategy honed, and you need to consider hiring staff. At the same time, you should also be considering the premises for your business. This is very much dependant on the size of your startup, the industry you are in and how many team members you might have.

Here are three things to think about when deciding what business premises best fits your needs.

Home Office

If you are a one-person entrepreneur, also know as a solopreneur, the chances are you can save on overhead at least in the short term. If your business is not client facing, you can utilize space within your home to carry out your daily tasks.  Doing so will save on lease costs.

When planning your home office, you should have a set space where you keep all your work material. An ideal situation would be a quiet space with a desk, chair, PC and some stationery, preferably in an uncluttered environment to prevent distractions. However, you need to be aware of the temptation to procrastinate. Many people find the lure of Facebook and news channels to be too enticing, even though you should be attempting to implement your business vision. While the odd pajama day sounds like bliss, in reality, this can be the start of a slippery slope into doing nothing. You need strong willpower to be able to work in a home office in a productive way.

Fit For Purpose

If you are becoming an importer and you need space to store your stock, there’s no point leasing an office. You need a warehouse. At the same time, if you are a business that relies on foot traffic and passing trade, you must make sure that your business premises are in the heart of a city with solid transport links and amongst other like-minded businesses.

If you provide a service and rely heavily on your IT provision, be sure to investigate raised cooling floors from a company like Pro Access Floors. These specialists can ensure your servers and IT hardware is properly looked after and maintained. Whatever your business is, whether retail, importation or service provision, your premises needs to fit the purpose.

Staff Productivity

If you are planning on hiring staff, you need to make sure you have an environment that leads to high productivity. Forget the beige floor tiles, cracked paint, and magnolia walls. Swap this for a white hue, Scandinavian inspired work desks, collaborative working pods, and inspiring local artwork. You want to foster a productive buzz and those off the cuff and inspired water cooler moments. The way you arrange the workplace will empower your team to care about their tasks and care about the business they work for.

If you want to hit the ground running when it comes to your business, consider placing your business premises higher up on your list of startup essentials to sort.  You don’t want to overlook this crucial key to success.
