When I first started my coaching business, I never thought I would end up hosting a podcast. I mean, who would want to listen to me?
That was over 5 years ago and I still continue to host a show, “Let’s Coach” currently on Blog Talk Radio. I also host a second monthly show, “Career Reels” on the CWR Talk Network.
When I retired from military service, I knew I wanted to continue serving by motivating and inspiring others to live extraordinary lives and have amazing careers. I created Infinity Coaching, Inc. offering career, executive and leadership coaching as well as organizational training.
Several people encouraged me to start a podcast but I was hesitant to do so. I thought I just didn’t have the voice for it. How would I be able to do everything that was required? My ex-boss, Mark Thorn, had retired a year before me from working as a senior executive for the Federal Government. Mark had chosen to become an executive and leadership coach. He thought it would be great to host a show but also had similar apprehensions. We ended up hosting the show together for three years and had so much fun doing so!
We created a safe environment for people to be interviewed. Every guest we interviewed shared how it was such a positive experience for them. Many of our guests went on to experience transformational changes to their businesses or lives.
Unfortunately, Mark was injured in a car accident making it difficult for him to continue with the show. We talked about it and agreed I should continue doing the show. I am happy to say Mark is doing so much better now. He continues to serve his clients as an executive coach and working with nonprofit organization’s.
We had designed the show to bring the best from the coaching world to our listeners, sharing what coaching could do for them. We interviewed coaches, authors, nonprofit organizations, small business owners and leaders who are making a difference. I proudly continue hosting the show we created with the same values and philosophy.
You can take it anywhere…
One of the things that I love about podcasts is that you can take them anywhere you. You can listen to shows live or you can go back and listen to the recordings of prior shows. You can listen from your cell phone or your computer – from anywhere you are. And, there are all types of shows out there for you to listen to.
Podcasts go far beyond the traditional news and music channels most people are used to listening to. There are shows you can start your day with like breakfast and morning shows. There are shows that last only 15 minutes but help you focus by starting or ending your day with prayer or meditation. If you are a sports fan you can find shows that have a sports theme or even focus on specific sports like baseball or football. Some of the most popular shows are the talk shows focusing on current affairs or hot topics. Yes, there is something on the air for everyone.
Consider being a guest…
If you are an author, coach, a leader making a difference, you can consider being a guest on a podcast or advertising your products or services. Spend a little time searching the Internet and you’ll find a long list of shows. When you find one in your specialty area reach out to the host and ask what does it take to be a guest on the show. You’ll find a lot of hosts are actually looking for guests. This can be a very cost-effective way to get your voice and message heard or to promote your business.
Don’t overlook the power of podcast and how it can enhance your life as a listener, being interviewed, or advertising your services.
