In the world of online content creation, what’s the one thing that takes up more time than anything else? Coming up with new ideas!

You’ve already cranked out some great social media posts, and now you are staring at a content schedule that seems to repeat the same stuff over and over again. But does your audience want to keep seeing the same stuff over and over again?  Have you considered turning your well-loved blog content into something new and exciting for your social media? Would that be worth trying out?

Long Story Short, Yes!

Anything you’ve created for one platform can be turned into a piece of content for another platform. You can take the work you’ve put all your time and effort into and serve it up for a whole new audience.  And no, it won’t harm your rankings or anything like that, because you’re not duplicating the content. You’re repurposing it. And the good news here?

Any Blog Post Can Be Repurposed

No matter what you’ve written in the past, you can turn it into another post by simply changing the way you convey the information. And if you’ve written something you’re really proud of, it should be at the top of your repurposing list.  After all, this content is more likely to have connected with your readers and had a high amount of likes, comments, and shares.  If it’s already popular on your blog, it’s likely to be popular on your social media as well.  But, how should you actually go about it?

Repurposing Content: A Quick 101

When repurposing content, there are a few cardinal rules to keep in mind:

Adapt to the platform’s style

You can’t just take a blog post and post it on your Instagram or X account.  That’s probably stating something obvious, but you would be surprised at how many people just try to cut and paste from one platform to another. You need to adapt your writing to the new platform’s style. That might mean turning it into an infographic series or cutting it down into bite-sized pieces. Each platform has its own posting policies and guidelines that you must adhere to.  Know what they are, so you won’t have your account suspended or shut down for breaking the rules

Track which posts connect with your audience

You may find you have a different audience on the social media platforms you use.  What catches one audience’s attention may not catch the other. People have certain expectations about the types of posts they see on the platform. To know what is connecting with your audience, you need to track which blog posts are doing well now that they’re on your social media. Track metrics like views, comments, and Instagram recent followers to get a full picture of how your repurposed content is really performing. By tracking how posts are performing, you will better understand how to share blog content.

Share Powerful Quotes

Review the blog articles to find statements that are meaningful and powerful. You can take the statements and create quote graphics using the language or add a picture to make it really stand out. However, be sure to give appropriate credit to whoever made the statement, even if it is you.

Lead the Way

When you share a portion of the blog post, let your audience know where they can find the rest of the article. You will lead them to your blog, where they can dive deeper into the subject.  While there, they can discover other articles you have written and learn more about you.

Get Creative and Beat the Boredom!

Turning blog posts into social media content is a great way to repurpose content. You can create interesting posts that attract your audience while also giving them the opportunity to learn more about you and your work.  By being creative, neither you nor your audience will become bored. Here’s to YOUR success!
